Website & correspondence

In our view, there is nothing more off-putting than ‘google’ English on a website or in any business correspondence. If a business cannot be bothered to invest time and care in their presentation, then why should a prospect entrust them with their business? “Fail to prepare-prepare to fail.”

We can correct your existing sites and help create new ones in both English and Polish to reflect your professionalism and, therefore, gain more clients. We can fine-tune those all-important e-mails, so nothing is left to chance. We can proofread any documents/memos/letters etc to ensure there are no howlers. (A howler is a: – ‘very stupid or glaring mistake.’ Often so stupid that it becomes funny). Look at this Covid notice that was posted in every Santander Polska Bank.

The last line reads: – ‘Your safety is our outmost priority’ it should, of course, read ‘Your safety is our utmost priority’ ‘outmost’ means ‘furthest away’ whereas ‘utmost’ means ‘the greatest possible’. This one tiny typing error has reversed the meaning of the sentence.

A prominent London investment banker lost his job when he wrote to a prospective client: – “ Sir, if you place your £1,000,000 with our Wealth Managers after only a few years the size of your investment will be certainly worth nothing.” He meant to write “worth noting” which means ‘here is something you should remember’, implying that his funds will have grown substantially.

A massacre ensued during the First World War after a message was badly relayed through the trenches. ‘Send reinforcements, we are going to advance,’ became, ‘Send 3 & 4pence we are going to a dance.’

The next generation

Kasia Przybyszewska-Miller, a Polish national, is fluent in both spoken and written English. She is a qualified English teacher in both the UK and Poland and also has a 1st class Honours degree and a Masters in Art from a British University. Kasia has taught English in the UK education system for 20 years, and English and art at Concorde College, the internationally renowned private school in Shropshire, UK.
